Dr. B’s End of the Year Bulletin…

This year was a special year for me in that our outgoing 5th graders are my kindergartners from my first year at Blades.  I’ve been with these kiddos for 6 years.  It’s very emotional and heartbreaking to see them leave our halls and move on to middle school. However, I could not be more excited to see them continue to thrive and achieve amazing things during their school career.  This echoes the year we’ve had at Blades due to our teacher’s outstanding efforts to craft learning environments that are engaging, innovative, challenging, and fun!  The incorporation of CCI (Continuous Classroom Improvement) this year in our rooms was a huge success and really pushed our staff to involve our students in their learning.  Students focused on goal setting, examining their own data, and problem-solving.  It really drove everyone to be focused on not just working harder…but working smarter.  I applaud my teacher’s resolve to create the highest quality instruction possible for each and every student at Blades!

As we begin to make plans for the new school year please mark your calendars for important upcoming dates and activities for the 2018-2019 school year.  Our process for informing you of your child’s teacher for next year will be as follows:  each student will receive a letter from their teacher in early August informing them of their placement for the 2018-2019 school year; there will also be a supply list inside the envelope for planning.

This year we will again combine our Open House/Curriculum Night so that students and families will have an even better understanding of what they can expect at the start of the year.  This is our Blades Welcome Back Night!  It’s a great time for students to come to school to meet their new teacher and visit their new home/classroom for the school year.  It will be held on Monday, August 13.  Grades 1 & 2 will come from 5:00-6:00pm and Grades 3-5 will come from 6:30-7:30pm.  Grade levels will meet as a whole in the gym, library, or cafeteria to discuss expectations.  Then everyone will move onto their new classrooms.  Students will stay with their parents during the entire event.  This allows you to meet with your child’s teacher and learn about the classroom curriculum, routines, and procedures.  Once again, we ask that you bring your student’s supplies with you to help make the first morning of school run more smoothly.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 15!!  There will be a “Boo-Hoo” Breakfast held for all Kindergarten parents, grandparents, and/or care-givers in the cafeteria on the first day of school around 8:15ish.  Join us in the cafeteria after you drop off your Kindergarten student or new student to meet other parents, make new friends, and learn more about Blades Elementary!

I want to wish our 5th graders GOOD LUCK on their journey to middle school.  I truly appreciate all your hard work during your time at Blades and know there are amazing things in your future!!

It is an honor and pleasure to spend each day with your child.  Thank you so much for trusting us with your children!  Please enjoy your summer break, travel safe, read a few good books, and get ready for an awesome 2018-2019 school year!!

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me personally at 314-467-7301.

Take care Blades Family and Have a GREAT Summer!!

Sincerely,

Dr. Jeremy Booker
